Anclote is one of the oldest and smallest communities on the Pasco County coast, and its housing stock shows it. The village was established in 1867, when the Meyer and Harrison families moved down from Marion County, and within about a decade it had a post office, general store, school, and ferry service running north to Cedar Key and south to Clear Water Bay. Settlers along the river built three-story manor homes, and a sawmill and rice plantation once operated here. What's left today is a mix: genuinely old riverside houses near the historic village core, waterfront homes with private docks and direct Gulf access along the Anclote River, modest coastal cottages and concrete-block homes along the Anclote Boulevard corridor, manufactured-home communities, and newer infill construction.
