"Full remodel of the kitchen in our North Bay Hills home. CMK opened the wall to the great room, built a huge quartz island, and matched the cabinetry to the rest of the house. Their project manager kept us posted every day and the crew left the site spotless. Worth every week of the wait."
Designed Around the Way Safety Harbor Families Live
A Safety Harbor weekend runs through the Main Street galleries, the city park, and the waterfront down at Philippe Park, and the kitchen is where everyone lands afterward. The trouble is that most Safety Harbor kitchens were never built for that. The 1920s cottages and bungalows a few blocks off Main Street, the 1950s through 1970s concrete-block ranches in North Bay Hills and Green Springs, and the older bay-front homes along Bayshore Drive all came from an era when the kitchen was a small room closed off from the rest of the house.
CMK Construction has been remodeling Safety Harbor kitchens for over two decades. We know the slab plumbing inside older block homes, the plaster and original trim in the cottages near Main Street, the salt-air-resistant cabinet finishes and hardware that hold up along Old Tampa Bay, and the permit process through the City of Safety Harbor building department. Opening a closed-off kitchen to the living and dining area without losing the character of the house is the project we're asked for most, and we've done hundreds of them.

Built for Safety Harbor Homes, Not Generic Remodels.
Safety Harbor has been a destination for a very long time. The Tocobaga people built their principal village and ceremonial center here on the west shore of Old Tampa Bay, and their temple mound still stands in Philippe Park. Spanish explorers took the mineral water at Espiritu Santo Springs for the Fountain of Youth, Odet Philippe planted Florida's first grapefruit groves on the bluff above the bay, and the Safety Harbor Sanatorium went up over the springs in 1925 and 1926. The houses that followed are what we work in today.
A kitchen in a 1920s cottage a few blocks off Main Street is a completely different job than a kitchen in a 1960s North Bay Hills concrete-block ranch or a bay-front home on Bayshore Drive. The older cottages bring plaster walls, narrow doorways, and original trim worth keeping. Mid-century block homes in Green Springs and Briar Creek often need slab plumbing reroutes and updated wiring. Homes on the water add salt-air exposure and flood-zone review, and the newer subdivisions out along Enterprise Road come with HOA architectural review.
The layouts share one problem: they close the kitchen off from the rest of the home. Old cottage kitchens sealed behind a wall as a back-of-house work room. Block-home kitchens cut off from the living room. Original kitchens with builder-grade cabinets, dated finishes, and no island. None of them match how people in Safety Harbor actually live, which is casually, with the doors open, and usually with company back from Main Street.
We've solved every one of these, hundreds of times. Load-bearing walls removed with engineered beams and City of Safety Harbor or Pinellas County permits. HOA and condo association paperwork managed without you lifting a finger. Salt-air-resistant cabinet hardware and finishes chosen to hold up near the bay, and new cabinetry detailed to sit right next to century-old trim. That's what two decades of Pinellas kitchens teaches you.

Real reviews from Safety Harbor kitchen remodel clients in North Bay Hills, downtown near Main Street, Green Springs, Briar Creek, and along the Old Tampa Bay waterfront.
"Our home on Bayshore Drive looks straight out at Old Tampa Bay and still had the original closed-off kitchen. CMK removed the wall to the living room with an engineered beam, rerouted the plumbing, and our project manager Barry walked us through every step. The house finally feels like one open space with the water view we always wanted."
"We replaced the original kitchen in our 1960s Green Springs block home with custom cabinets, a quartz island, and new lighting. Picking everything at the showroom in person made the decisions easy. On schedule, on budget, and the install crew was meticulous."
"Our home a few blocks off Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor is a 1920s Craftsman and the kitchen had never been touched. CMK designed cabinetry that fits the period trim perfectly, updated the wiring and plumbing behind the walls, and treated the old house with real respect. The result looks like it belongs there."
"Bay-front home just up the road from Philippe Park, complete kitchen remodel. CMK steered us toward finishes and hardware that stand up to the salt air off the water, which no other contractor even mentioned. The quartz island and new layout completely changed how we entertain."
"We're in a Briar Creek ranch off Enterprise Road and wanted a kitchen that's easier to move around in. CMK lowered a section of counter, widened the walkways, and added better lighting throughout. Daily updates from the project manager, a clean job site every evening, and the schedule they promised is the schedule they kept."
Smart Questions for Your Safety Harbor Kitchen Remodel Estimate
Estimates are where good and bad contractors look the most alike. These are the questions that separate them, worth asking any Safety Harbor company before signing a contract, not just CMK.
-
Are you licensed and insured in Florida?
Why it matters: Unlicensed contractors can void your homeowner's insurance and leave you personally liable for code violations.
Good answer: A state-issued CGC license number printed on every estimate, plus general liability and workers' comp on file. CMK is CGC 1516665 with Registered Electrical Contractor ER 13016498. -
Do you pull all permits, or do I?
Why it matters: Homeowner-pulled permits make you personally liable for code compliance, not the contractor.
Good answer: The contractor pulls every City of Safety Harbor or Pinellas County permit, handles HOA architectural-review paperwork where it applies, and schedules every inspection at no extra charge. -
Who manages my project day-to-day?
Why it matters: Without a named project manager, you'll spend the build chasing updates from a salesperson who's already moved on to the next deal.
Good answer: A named PM, a real person you can call, who visits the job multiple times per week and communicates daily. -
What's your warranty, and what does it cover?
Why it matters: "We stand behind our work" is not a warranty. Get it in writing before you sign.
Good answer: A written, named warranty that covers both workmanship and materials for at least one year. CMK's Peace of Mind Warranty does both. -
Can I see your showroom and pick materials in person?
Why it matters: Catalog-only selections lead to surprises on install day. Tile and stone look completely different under real lighting.
Good answer: A real, walkable showroom where you handle cabinet doors, countertop slabs, tile samples, and fixtures before anything is ordered. The 4,000 sq ft CMK Design Studio on W. Hillsborough Ave is open to active clients. -
What's your project timeline, and how do you handle delays?
Why it matters: "It'll take a few months" is not a schedule. Vague timelines almost always slip.
Good answer: A written project schedule with named milestones (demo, rough-in, cabinet install, countertop template, final inspection) and weekly progress updates.
