Zephyrhills is its own city in east Pasco County, the "City of Pure Water" founded in 1888 and settled after 1909 by Union Civil War veterans through the Zephyrhills Colony Company. The oldest section is Downtown Zephyrhills, the 5th Avenue historic district, where early-1900s bungalows and frame cottages sit under mature oaks. Around it are the newer 1990s and 2000s master-planned subdivisions like Silverado, Abbott Square, Link's Crossing, and Oak Creek, plus long-established family neighborhoods along Fort King Road and the Gall Boulevard (US-301) corridor. Many of the older homes were built with compact, closed-off floor plans and original kitchens and baths, and after decades of Florida living they are ready for a true update that still respects the period character.
